We are thrilled to have internationally acclaimed tattoo artist Alex Duque as a resident artist at our Loop 410/Evers location. Best known for his realism, watercolor, and fine-line tattoos, Alex brings his passion and expertise to each of his canvases.
How long have you been tattooing professionally? Since 2015. What inspired you into the art of tattooing? I think that what inspired me the most was graffiti. Prior to venturing into the world of tattooing, I dedicated myself to graffiti art, however, this medium was limited, and I wanted my art to evolve. I was introduced to tattoo artists at the University where I studied graphic design and I feel in love with the artwork from the start. So much so, that I sold my cell phone and a few other personal items to buy my first machines. Tell us about your preferred style of work. I have always liked realism: the soft shadows, color transition and everything that has to do making tattoos look like photos on skin. I want to evolve my style more and look for something that is unique to me: combining multiple styles to create something different. What other styles are you known for? I really do all styles! In my country, I was most well-known for fine-line tattoos and watercolor (in addition to realism of course). I love to do script and lettering tattoos. What inspires you as an artist? I would say that everything: my environment, the sunset, knowing that a person almost unknown to me, trusts my work for the simple fact of capturing my art in others. Why should someone pick you for their next tattoo/to be their artist? I am a very natural person -- humble by nature. I truly enjoy every stroke, every pass of color that I do with the machine on people's skin. For now, it is a little difficult for me to be able to converse with people who only speak English, but when it comes to someone who knows how to speak my native language I talk a lot with them and I try not to make them see the tattoo as one more spot on the skin but as a great work that I do by placing a little of my style on it.
