With a residency at our Shaenfield Ranch Ink Couture Tattoos, Mars is a veritable Texas tattoo legend. With a special talent for darker themed tattoos such as horror, illustrative, blackwork linework, and traditional, Mars is equally masterful in floral, geometric, pop art and comic book stylings.

How long have you been tattooing professionally?
19 years.

What inspired you into the art of tattooing?
My origin story into the art of tattooing started in 2005 when I was working as a fledgling piercer. That year, a longtime friend and artist, Tara Quinn, reached out and asked how I felt about learning to draw on people and I jumped at the opportunity. I then started out as an apprentice at Divine Line Tattoos. I worked in San Antonio for several years, then made my way to Austin, where I continued to grow and learn. In 2016 I returned to San Antonio and here we are.

Tell us about your preferred style of work.
I love bold linework and darker themes. Illustrative, Horror, Lowbrow, Traditional, Medieval Woodcuts, Occult Symbolism.

What other styles are you known for?
I also love tattooing Floral, Lettering, Graphic Blackwork, Geometric, Pop Art, and Cartoon/Comic characters.

What inspires you as an artist?
The power of an image to convey an idea or emotional intricacy instantly and often more effectively than mere words will allow.

Why should someone pick you for their next tattoo/to be their artist?
I have years of experience serving clients from first timers to seasoned collectors. I do my best to anticipate their needs and concerns to give them a top notch experience. The quality of my customers’ tattoos is extremely important to me. I don’t “wing” anything. You’ll know exactly what design you’re getting from me, from linework to shading, with no unpleasant surprises.

Anything else you'd like prospective clients to know about you?
I care about your body art more than a quick buck. If I’m not the right artist for a job, which sometimes happens, I’ll be upfront about that. I’d rather turn it down than just take your money.
