Continuing its tradition for fresh young talent, another rising star in the tattoo industry is Lorraine. Lorraine began her career as a portrait artist, sought after around the word for her beautiful canvas commissions. She later ventured out and mastered the art of microblading and permanent makeup. Her talent and steady hand led to the natural transition into the traditional art of tattooing. Located at our 281 North/San Pedro location, Lorraine specializes in fine-line, realistic, and traditional tattoos. Lorraine is also our resident permanent makeup specialist, specializing in microblading, lip blushing and eyeliner. What inspired you into the art of tattooing? Tattooing is an artform that I've always been fascinated with. To me, nothing else looks the way ink does on skin: it's such a beautiful form of art. Growing up in an old-fashioned, Mexican, conservative household, tattoos were associated with prison and criminals. But being around my extended family (who incidentally were criminals 😊 and in and out of jail) there was something about their tattoos that seemed so cool. Aside from their crimes, some of them were artists too -- and they were some of the nicest people. I have always felt most comfortable among others who are like myself, which is in the tattoo world, tattoo shops, conventions and shows. I've also been inspired by other artists and tattoo models. I have been oil painting for years, so I want to be able to transition the work I do with oil painting into my tattooing. To showcase tattooing/tattoos as the form of art that it is, and don't just judge a book by it's beautiful, sexy cover. Tell us about your preferred style of work? I prefer to do combinations of neotraditional, realism, and fine-line work in black and grey and COLOR. What other styles are you known for? I also do permanent makeup. What inspires you as an artist? Inspiring others inspires me. Whether that person is an artist or not, giving them the motivation to pursue what they love inspires me to continue doing what I love. Being able to create something that would not otherwise exist in the same way, whether it's a painting or a tattoo. Also in permanent makeup, I truly enjoy helping people, especially women, feel good about themselves, as well as making their lives easier. Why should someone pick you for their next tattoos/to be their artist? I care about the work that I put out. I am very attentive throughout the entire process. I'm going to give the client what they want, but also in a way that is original and works for them. Anything else you'd like for prospective clients to know about you? That they will get my best every time and walk away with something unique to themselves. |
