About your New Tattoo
Your new tattoo is an open wound. Because of this, your tattoo aftercare is essential in how well your tattoo heals as well as the amount of color and detail that remains. The ideal conditions in healing a new wound are simple, but effective: keep your wound moist and clean.
What is Saniderm?
Saniderm is a thin, transparent, flexible protective film designed to protect new tattoos from germs, bacteria, fluids, friction, and other contaminates. Saniderm is breathable, so unlike plastic warp, Saniderm allows oxygen to penetrate through to assist in healing while simultaneously permitting vapor to escape -- thus providing the ideal environment for optimal healing. When applied immediately after your tattoo session, Saniderm protects your tattoo from dirt and bacteria. and germs. Saniderm also reduce scabbing (which is detrimental your tattoo), reduces pain, and keeps your ink locked in for a more vibrant tattoo.
How do I apply Saniderm to my tattoo?
Your tattoo artist will apply your Saniderm bandage after your tattoo is completed.
Could I have an allergic reaction to Saniderm?
Saniderm is hypoallergenic and while extremely rare, allergic reactions are possible -- especially in cases of very sensitive skin or known adhesive allergies. If you have concerns, you can always wear a small piece of Saniderm prior to your tattoo appointment. If you develop a rash, skin irritation, or other signs of an allergic reaction, immediately remove your Saniderm and wash the area with mild soap, then immediately discontinue the use. Saniderm should not be used on infected skin. Consult a physician if necessary.
Do Saniderm bandages contain latex?
No. Saniderm is latex-free.
Will Saniderm pull out my ink?
No, in fact, Saniderm will preserve the ink in your healing tattoo. Your Saniderm bandage will not attach to the tattoo area, but rather the area around it. Most customers who have used Saniderm as directed, report their tattoo colors as even more vibrant and intact, as compared to other aftercare products.
How long should I leave Saniderm on my tattoo?
In general, leave Saniderm on your tattoo for at least 24 hours after application, but no longer than 7 days. Duration will depend on the extent of weeping, which can affect how well your Saniderm adheres to the skin. If you notice excessive weeping or fluid under Saniderm, change Saniderm dressing according to instructions given to you by your tattoo artist. Many people wear their Saniderm for 5 days. Additional pieces of Saniderm may be worn up to 6 days.
Can I swim or bathe with my Saniderm?
Saniderm is waterproof and remains adhered to skin even when immersed in water, meaning you can bathe and showering while wearing your Saniderm. Prolonged exposure to water is discouraged, however.
Can I tan or sunbathe with my Saniderm?
Saniderm does not contain any type of sun block or UV protection, so avoid exposure to sunlight. Once healed, be sure to always protect your tattoo with proper sunblock to protect your and keep your colors bright.
Why is Saniderm superior to other products and methods?
There are as many aftercare protocols as there are artists and shops and that can get confusing. Ink Couture Tattoos is pleased to offer a simple and more effective solution.
Other frequently recommended methods:
Does Saniderm hurt?
Not at all. In fact, the protection that Saniderm provides actually can ease pain in the healing process.
Can I re-use my Saniderm?

How does Saniderm work?
When you get tattooed, your skin is traumatized by a series of rapid subdermal punctures. Your body works quickly to try to heal itself by excreting plasma which creates a protective scab over the wound, however, scabs are actually harmful to a tattoo (particularly your color). Saniderm works to keep your skin moisturized throughout the healing process. Saniderm's structure is permeable enough to allow oxygen in and vapor out to maintain breathability of your tattoo while simultaneously protecting it from harmful contaminates, dust, germs, bacteria, friction, scrapes and more.
